Fastest response

Emergency Plumbing

Burst pipes, failed flexi hoses and sewage backing up. In a building with a business downstairs that reaches more than one party quickly. We answer across Newtown 24 hours.

Emergency call-outs

Hot Water

Gas, electric, heat pump and solar, repaired or swapped same day where we can. Soft Sydney water means the anode or an element gives out long before scale is the story.

Hot water repairs

Gas Fitting

Cooktops, heaters and gas lines connected, tested and certified before we leave, with the Certificate of Compliance handed over rather than mentioned.

Taps, Leaks & Burst Pipes

Dripping taps, hidden leaks and burst pipes located with equipment rather than guesswork, then repaired properly instead of patched.

Toilets & Tapware

Toilets, vanities and tapware fitted in one visit, including in flats above shops where the original rough-ins were set out for a very different building.

What a plumber costs in Newtown

Hardly any plumbing site publishes numbers at all. These are 2026 Sydney entry figures, put here so every quote you get has a benchmark to sit against, this one included. That is a van at the door and the market's hourly figure. Job-by-job pricing sits on each service page.

01

Getting someone out: $0–$180

Nothing on anything booked through this site. Reach us another way and the usual Sydney attendance charge applies toward the top of that band.

02

The hourly rate you will be quoted elsewhere: $100–$150

The business-hours market rate, and what most quotes are quietly assembled from. We do not price that way, for the reason under these cards.

03

After hours, weekends and holidays: $180–$250

The trade's loading for nights, weekends and public holidays. We add none: the figure is fixed before the van moves.

04

A typical emergency repair: $250–$700

A single number to make a burst safe, clear a line or isolate a gas fault, rather than a meter running from the moment somebody parks.

05

Your fixed price: agreed first

Written down before work begins. If what we find changes the job, nothing continues until you have approved the new figure.

The middle two cards are the market's numbers rather than ours, shown for contrast. An hourly rate bills the plumber's time instead of your problem, and on a shared line the time that matters is the hour spent establishing whose problem it actually is. We price the work rather than the hours, so what you approve is what you settle. On a shared line that also means establishing whose problem it is comes out of our time rather than yours. Where you already know what you need, the real figures live on the blocked drains, pipe relining, burst pipes and leaks, hot water and gas fitting pages.

The difference between a plumber and a licensed plumber.

Anyone can call themselves a plumber. A licensed one carries a NSW licence number, real insurance, and the legal accountability that comes with both, so when a gas job is certified or a repair signed off, it actually means something.

NSW licensed, fully insured, and in these King Street and Enmore Road buildings constantly. Work to the Australian Standards with a written lifetime workmanship warranty.

Local area guide

Plumbing in Newtown

King Street runs the length of the suburb as one of Sydney's longest continuous retail strips, and Enmore Road continues the pattern. A very large share of that frontage is shop below and dwelling above, frequently in the same nineteenth-century building, and a high proportion of the ground floor is food premises. That combination shapes most of what we get called to here. Across the inner west, a licensed local plumber is only minutes away, same-day and 24/7 for genuine emergencies.

Common plumbing problems we see in Newtown

  • A kitchen downstairs, a bedroom above. Much of the King Street and Enmore Road frontage is shop below and dwelling above, and a high share of the ground floor is food premises.
  • Hot water systems giving out. Soft Sydney water means a dead unit here is nearly always a spent anode or a failed element rather than scale. Gas, electric, heat pump and solar, repaired or replaced, often same day.
  • Ageing galvanised & earthenware pipe. Older homes in Camperdown, Enmore and Erskineville still run on steel and clay pipe that rusts, roots and splits over time.
  • Gas fitting & compliance. Cooktops, heaters and gas lines in buildings where a commercial kitchen and a residence sometimes share a wall. Our licensed fitters bring it to standard and certify it on the spot.
  • Grease is the defining failure. A commercial kitchen puts fats and oils into a line at a volume no residence produces, so a shared drain carries a load the flat above has no control over.
  • Nobody recorded what connects to what. These buildings have been converted and reconverted for a century, so which fixtures share a line is rarely documented and almost never assumed correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're tied up right now, leave your details and we'll call you straight back as soon as possible.

Still have a question? Licensed plumber van servicing Newtown
How much does a plumber charge per hour in Newtown?

Sydney sits at $100 to $150 an hour and that number predicts nothing about your job. We agree a price for the whole piece of work first, so a quick call and an awkward one both cost what was quoted.

How fast can you get to me in Newtown?

On a genuine emergency we aim to reach you within the hour anywhere across Newtown and the inner west, on any day and at any hour.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Any attendance or after-hours charge is named on the phone before anyone sets off. Booked through this site there is none at all.

How do I know you're a licensed plumber?

NSW Licence 368473C. Check it on the Fair Trading register yourself, it takes a minute. Unlicensed plumbing is illegal in NSW and voids a home insurance claim, so ask anyone for their number before work starts. Ours is on every quote we send.

My hot water system failed and it isn't that old. Why?

Soft water is why. Scale finishes tanks in hard-water regions and Sydney is not one. Here the sacrificial anode is consumed protecting the steel and the tank then starts corroding, or an element fails. Both are frequently repairs rather than replacements.

We live above a restaurant and the drain keeps blocking. Is that their fault?

It might be, and it might not, and guessing helps nobody. What is true is that a commercial kitchen puts fats and oils into a line at a volume no residence produces, so where the drainage is shared the flat above experiences the consequences of a kitchen it does not control. What is also true is that in buildings converted and reconverted for a century, almost nobody has a record of what is actually connected to what. A camera settles it in about an hour, and a finding is worth more than a month of correspondence.

Do you work on heritage and conservation-area homes?

Most of this housing is nineteenth century, built as shops with dwellings above and altered continually since. Practically that means original rough-ins that suit nothing modern, pipework added to by every owner and every tenant, and internal layouts that have been changed more times than anyone has recorded.

Who is responsible for a grease blockage in a shared line?

That follows from the leases and the ownership, which are documents we are not party to, so it is not ours to rule on. What we can do is establish exactly where the material is coming from and where the line runs, in writing. Trade waste obligations sit with the commercial operator rather than with a residence, and Sydney Water is the authority on what those obligations actually are. We will point you there rather than guessing at it.

What areas around Newtown do you cover?

The whole Newtown LGA and every suburb around it: Enmore, Camperdown, Stanmore, St Peters, Erskineville, Darlington, Redfern, Enmore and more.

Hot water systems we service and replace

Hot water brings us out more than anything here, and these are the makes behind it. Electric storage through much of the older housing, gas where the building has it, and continuous flow wherever a tank had to come off the floor and onto a wall. Repairing and replacing hot water systems is most of what we do here, and we are straight about what each job costs and the age at which a unit stops being worth fixing.

We service and replace these systems as an independent licensed plumber. We are not an agent for, or endorsed by, any of these manufacturers.
